Jet propulsion
is very attractive to air craft manufacturers because they are much
more powerful than piston engines and on average weigh on quarter less
than a piston rated at roughly the same power output.
They also take
up much less space
than piston engines. This is especially true with turbojet and
turbofan engines.
Jet propulsion
is based on Newton's third law of motion. Which is every action will
have an equal and opposite reaction.
This is true
in many aspects of aerospace and planes.
